Stacey Azzopardi

Stacey Azzopardi is a biosecurity plant pathologist and Director in the Australian Government Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) with a twenty-year career history in detection, diagnosis and management of endemic and exotic plant pests and diseases. Stacey is based in sunny Sydney and is leading a program of diagnostic reform across the national network of DAFF biosecurity laboratories. She has worked with DAFF since 2009, screening high health plants for exotic priority pests in post-entry plant quarantine and testing border interceptions of plants and plant products as they are inspected on-arrival. Prior to working with DAFF, Stacey worked in the NSW Department of Primary Industries delivering diagnostic services for the vegetable and nursery industries at Elizabeth Macarthur Agricultural Institute, both in the laboratory and in the field. Stacey leads engagement with industry stakeholders, diagnosticians and researchers responding to emerging pathogens and operationalises innovative detection and diagnostic techniques. Stacey sees @ICPP2028 as an opportunity to showcase the contributions DAFF has made to plant pathology and demonstrate the benefits of biosecurity in protecting Australia’s unique environment.
