Dr Seona Casonato

Dr Seona Casonato is an applied plant pathologist who has helped growers and farmers find solutions for their plant protection issues for over 25 years, in Australia and New Zealand.  She strives to deliver practical solutions in the field that will make a difference to everyday lives. Currently, Seona is the Leaf Field Pathologist for the Australian Sugar Industry, employed by Sugar Research Australia. However, she has worked on numerous crops, both horticultural and arable, with many years working in the kiwifruit industry in New Zealand.  She has previously held research and academic positions whereby she has focused on applied applications for disease control of fungal and bacterial pathogens.  Additionally, she has worked extensively in biological control utilising her knowledge to kill unwanted weeds and insect pests. Seona utilised molecular means to help in the application of her applied science, for taxonomic and diagnostic purposes.   Seona enjoys gardening, playing piano and having the luxury of living in beautiful tropical Queensland, partaking on amazing beach walks.  When you all come to ICPP2028 she welcomes you to immerse yourself in the natural and cultural beauty of Queensland and Australia.
