Prof Levente Kiss

Levente (Levy) Kiss is a Professor of Plant Pathology at the University of Southern Queensland (UniSQ), Toowoomba, Australia. Currently, he is also the Director of the UniSQ Centre for Crop Health; a member of the College of Experts of the Australian Research Council (ARC); and an External Member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. As a plant pathologist and mycologist, Levy has been working mostly on obligate biotrophic plant pathogens, especially powdery mildews, rusts, and downy mildews; mycoparasitism; culturable plant pathogenic fungi, such as the causal agents of grapevine trunk diseases; fungicide resistance; and weed biocontrol. Before relocating to Australia in 2017, Levy was the Director of the Plant Protection Institute of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences in Budapest, Hungary, from 2012 to 2016. He worked in that institute altogether for 25 years. During that period, Levy has also conducted research in Canada (at McGill University); France (at Rhone Poulenc Agro, University of Paris-Sud and INRA); UK (at University of Kent and CABI); and the USA (at USDA and University of Wisconsin-Madison), with the support of Fulbright, European Union, and OECD Fellowships. Whenever he gets a chance, Levy enjoys bushwalking in Australian National Parks and spends as much time as possible on the stunning beaches of Queensland – such as the venue for ICPP 2028!
